Abbreviations - zkratky
Here are some abbreviations you should know. I hope you are familiar with most of them.
approx. - approximately
c/o - closed/open
e.g. - for example
etc. - and so on; et cetera
GMT - Greenwich Mean Time
incl. - including
info. - information
intro. - introduction
No. - number
N, S, E & W - North, South, East and West
PTO - power take-off (odběr energie)
Rd. - road
RSVP - respond if it pleases you (It is with this meaning that invitation cards and similar documents are often marked with "RSVP." It is proper etiquette to reply to an RSVP request whether confirming attendance or declining.)
St. - street
VAT - value added tax (DPH)
VIP - very important person
vocab. - vocabulary
Xmas - Christmas
1st, 2nd & 3rd - the first, the second and the third
Feb. - February
Wed. - Wednesday
UK - United Kingdom
Numbers
Be careful with reading numbers. There is AND between a ten and a hundred. We do not use plural with quantities in numbers. Bellow you have some examples.
333 three hundred and thirty-three
144 one/a hundred and forty-four
113 one/a hundred and thirteen
1,992 one thousand nine hundred and ninety-two
5.75 five point seven five
850,000 eight hundred and fifty thousand
4,000,000 four million
7/8 seven eighths
11/4 + 22/3 = 3.9167 one and one quarter plus two and two thirds equals three point nine one six seven
