tense

The verb form which shows whether the speaker is referring to past, present, or future. In English, technically, there are only two tense s present (they go), and past (they went). Future time in English is usually expressed by modal verbs , such as will, going to.

that-clause

A clause starting with that and often functioning as the object of a reporting verb I was told that the director was in a meeting. Often the word that can be omitted I was told the director was in a meeting.

to-infinitive

The form of the verb that has no endings, tense, person, etc., and which is preceded by to

transitive verb

A verb that takes an object

She caught the ball. cf. intransitive verb
